Carling Cup Final

Today was the Carling Cup final, and luckily for me, it was on ESPN360. Why they don't just play it on ESPN on television, I really don't know. The game was a decent match, considering it finished 0-0. Ronaldo came close to grabbing a stunning winner when he smashed a left footed rocket of the post with what was pretty much the last kick of regulation. Lennon also had an invaluable chance to score midway through the second half, but hit the ball much to close to Ben Foster, who sprawled to make a strong save. Once extra time began, the match looked destined for penalties, and that is where it went. Foster proved the hero, saving Jamie O'Hara's first kick, and killing any confidence Spurs might have had. First trophy, now can they win four?

In league matches over the weekend, Liverpool suffered a serious Champion's League hangover, losing to Middlesbrough. So they can win at the Bernabeu, but not at the Riverside, curious. Elsewhere, Aston Villa threw away three points by giving up two late goals to struggling Stoke and Everton continued their resurgence, easily winning 2-0 against West Brom. This week there are mid-week games, making for an exciting and busy next 10 days, as there will be two Premiership rounds as well as Champion's League.
